Disrespect breeds disrespect.
Sad thing is that some people really, honestly think this is the proper way to speak out. They think it will help heal the prejudice and divisions in our nation. They just don't realize, and many don't know, that there is no healing without Jesus and without the change He makes in hearts that breaks down the middle wall of partition between us and makes us one.
“When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7)
“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 5:44-48)
This is going to have to be our goal now. If we would see things change in our nation, we will have to be that change. We will have to be that change by loving with unconditional love; loving those who hate us; loving those who do wrong; praying for them, and caring about them. They must be loved, not for what they are but for the fact that they are created in the image of God and that Jesus died for them. This is not going to be easy, and how I need the Lord to change me so I can start being the change my country needs.
