That God would give him a heart filled with praise.
11. That his heart would be filled with the spirit of praise
Psalm 47:1 says, “Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.” This verse not only says to praise the Lord, but it tells why God should be praised:
a. It is good to sing praises to God
b. It is pleasant
c. Praise is comely
According to Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary, 1913, “comely” means, “Suitable or becoming; proper; agreeable.” It is suitable or becoming to sing praise to God. It is agreeable.
What has God done that is so worthy of praise? Many things are listed in these few verses.
“3He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. 4He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. 5Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. 6The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground… 11The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy… 15He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.” (from Psalm 147)
“Stand up and bless the LORD your God for ever and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise. 6Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.” (Nehemiah 9:5,6)
God has a blessed and glorious name, a name which is above all blessing and praise. God is so worthy of praise that all the host of heaven worship Him. Isaiah heard the seraphim cry one to another, “Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” (Isaiah 6:3) And my pastor can praise God as well, and I can praise Him because “he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness.” (See Isaiah 61:10) Our pastors are clothed with God’s garments of salvation and covered with Jesus’ robe of righteousness, and this allows them to be able to praise God. And it allows us to be able to praise God too because He has covered us with His garments of salvation and with Jesus' robe of righteousness. Amen!
