2. Pray for him to spend time alone with God and God’s word so that he would get such a vision for Christ that he would be able to impart that vision to others.
3. That he would get down lower and lower and let the love of God be poured into his life. That he would open his life and let the love of God flow in. Then a life of prayer would come naturally to him. Also, as he is filled with the love of Christ, this love will flow out in his own life.
4. That he would watch in prayer earnestly – alone and with others.
“The church life… was far below Bible standard; the Holy Spirit was so little honored in those ministries that few were being saved from among the Christless millions.”
“Hyde and Paterson waited and tarried one whole month before the opening date [of the first convention]. For thirty days and thirty nights, these godly men waited before God in prayer… these men prayed and praised God for a mighty outpouring of His power.”
~from Praying Hyde, p. 13
Our church may not be far below Bible standard as were the churches mentioned in this book, but wouldn't we still like to see a mighty outpouring of God's power upon us?
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” (Ephesians 6:18) The result of this – boldness in declaring the gospel to the Christless millions, “And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.” (verse 19)
“2Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; 3Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: 4That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.” (Colossians 4:2-4)
5. That he would be brokenhearted for sin – his own and the sin of others
“Hearts were bowed before that Divine presence as the trees of the wood before a mighty tempest. It was the ocean of God’s love being outpoured through one man’s obedience. Hearts were broken before it. There was confession of sins with tears that were soon changed to joy and then shouts of rejoicing… Hours alone with God, with no one to see or hear but God… Each one realized that superficialities were put away, and that each one was in the awful presence of the Holy God.”

“By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea.” (Psalm 65:5)
“O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God.” (Psalm 68:35)
