Many people seemed to think this was wonderful. Yes, even many Christians and conservatives liked this program. But is it a good program? If you trade in your old car and get $4,500 dollars from the government toward purchasing a more fuel efficient car, who is part owner of your next car? Many people do not realize that this is like driving right into a trap. It is just another way for the government to take control of part of your life.
In Proverbs 31, the resourceful virtuous woman buys a field. The cultivation of it is not funded with government grants but with resources that were the fruit of her own hands. Her family is clothed upon and provided for in the winter because she takes great care to do the work necessary for them. She makes sure her workers are well fed and cared for so that they can do the best possible work for her family.
The virtuous woman’s husband is known in the gates. He trusts her. He praises her. The virtuous woman supports her husband, and her husband is a wise man who loves and cares for his family.
Why have we forgotten God’s plan of things? Why have we looked to the government to solve our problems? If we ask the government to help, the government will probably help. But, as Thomas Jefferson said, “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.” Only God gives us life and breath and all things because He loves us. “Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” (Psalm 62:8)
