That he would be emptied of self so that he might be filled with Christ
Sufficiency to do the work of God comes not in self but through Christ. “Such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: 5Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; 6Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.” (II Corinthains 3:4-6)
Your pastor is the minister of God because God has made him an able minister of the new testament, and your pastor fulfills this ministry through trust in the sufficiency of Christ.
As your pastor pours himself out to God and is filled with Christ, He will delight and glory in the things in which God delights and glories. “23Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: 24But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.” (Jeremiah 9:23,24)
