Lately I have heard/read things that make my heart sad and heavy for my country.
In online Facebook comments about gender, one individual declared, “Don’t you dare call me a person! I am species neutral.”
Some people, in our country, in America, believe in a religion called “The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster” or “Pastafariasm” and believe in a literal Flying Spaghetti Monster.
In one school, Satanists asked permission to pass out literature. This resulted in the school banning all religious literature from being distributed.
These things make me sad and heavy because they cause me to realize that somehow the truth has not reached this people, the American people. Perhaps they have heard, but it has not reached their hearts. The Bible says that “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17) Also, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11) And “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
What has happened? Has God’s word lost its power? No. That can never happen. Then how is it that the people of our country perish for lack of knowledge? Let us pray that God will show us how this has come to be and what His remedy is for this situation. Only the light of truth can penetrate the darkness of Satan’s lies.
Some solemn words for thought from Daniel Webster, written over 100 years ago.
"If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country I do not know what is to become of us as a nation. And the thought is one to cause solemn reflection on the part of every Christian and patriot. If truth is not diffused, error will be. If God and His Word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendancy. If the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will. If the power of the Gospel is not felt through the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end."
