One candidate I’m considering is Dr. Ben Carson. This site tells where he stands on ten issues. When you scroll down, a window pops up that you can click on to find out where other candidates stand as well.
What would make cause me to be cautious concerning Dr. Ben Carson?
There are some things I disagree with about Ben Carson, but I’m sure there are things I would disagree with about any candidate.
I wish Ben Carson would take a stronger stand on some issues.
These would include:
2nd Amendment Rights
Gay marriage.
It helps to remember that President Reagan was not staunchly in support of 2nd Amendment Rights. However, he was a great President because he was a great man. He was a great man because he loved God and depended on God to know how to lead the people.
Ben Carson is also in favor of mandatory vaccines. This is something I strongly oppose. There are medical reasons why vaccines are not appropriate for everybody, and religious and personal preference as well. This is not a decision that should be made by someone in a government office but by a patient and that patient’s doctor. There is no way a government official can examine each person and determine if vaccines are helpful or safe for that particular person. There are other reasons to oppose mandatory vaccines as well; but that is not the topic of this post so I will just consider the one reason.
What would make me consider voting for Dr. Ben Carson?
One of the big things is that he thinks. His mother was a tremendous influence in his life. She encouraged him and taught him how to think and reason and make decisions.
He is motivated. If it is thought that something cannot be done, he works to find a way to do it.
He is knowledgeable about our country’s history and about how a Republic is supposed to work.
He fears God. He does say that he is a Christian. While I do not know his heart, he does fear God and that shows in his life.
Many are praying for him and he truly appreciates their prayers.
He takes time to meet with people and to listen to their cares, concerns, and suggestions. He realizes that he does not have all the answers.
The fact that people are praying for Dr. Ben Carson and that he truly appreciates those prayers is a big factor. The Bible says, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” (Proverbs 12:1) The Bible also says, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (I Timothy 2:1-4)
If we pick a candidate, encourage and love that candidate, and pray for that candidate, we do not know that God can do in that candidate’s life. God can change his or her heart and give wisdom to lead this country aright. We all have areas where we need to change or where we can improve or do things differently. We want God and others to be patient with us. Remember, Presidential candidates are people too. Let’s pray for and encourage them so we can watch what God will do in and through their lives. If a candidate needs to change in a certain area, God can certainly affect that change in their heart.
