IV. An understanding that I am not a citizen of this world - v. 17 “Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word.”
A. How do I obtain this understanding?
1. By realizing that I am a servant of God and that my life is in His hands
2. By realizing that God will bless if I obey His commandments.
3. By realizing that bountiful blessings come from God
4. By asking God to open my eyes so that I may understand wondrous things out of
His law - v. 18
5. By taking note that God’s word says I am a stranger in the earth - v.19
6. By taking not that only God’s word can show me how to live on this earth.
B. Results of understand that I am not a citizen of this world
1. I will serve the LORD more faithfully
2. I will obey God’s word
3. God will preserve my life
4. God will deal bountifully with me
5. God will give me better understanding of His word
6. God will remind me that I look for a city whose builder and maker is God
7. God will use His word to teach me how to live in this earth
V. A love and a longing for the word of God - v.20 “My soul breaketh for the longing that it hath unto thy judgments at all times.”
A. How do I obtain this love and longing for the word of God?
1. By remember that God hates pride - v.21
2. By keeping God’s testimonies - v.22
3. By meditating on God’s statues, even if I am falsely accused - v.23
4. By delighting in God’s testimonies - v.24
5. By allowing God’s testimonies to be my counsellors - v.24
B. Results of loving and longing for the word of God
1. I will not be proud - v.21
2. I will keep God’s testimonies - v.22
3. I will meditate on God’s statutes at all times.
4. I will delight in God’s testimonies
5. I will know right from wrong
6. I will understand how to live
