In the last little study, we looked at God’s strong warning to Isaiah not to walk in the way of the people around him. God did not want Isaiah to be afraid of the things other people were afraid of. God wanted Isaiah to fear Him. Also, God wanted Isaiah’s life to be a testimony for Him. Isaiah, his wife, and his children were all signs and wonders to the people of Judah and Jerusalem.
One thing Isaiah did was to teach those who really wanted to know the truth. There must have been at least a few such individuals. Isaiah 8:16 says, “Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.”
Another thing Isaiah did was to look to the Lord. It seemed that God was hiding His face, yet Isaiah trusted in Him, “And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.” (Isaiah 8:17) Isaiah trusted in God and waited on Him.
Thirdly, Isaiah and his family maintained a good testimony, “Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.” (Isaiah 8:18)
Isaiah and his family set a good example for those who would come behind in future generations. When we live in difficult circumstances, even in a nation that has forgotten God and is experiencing His judgment, there are at least three things we can do –
1. Teach others the way of the Lord, especially those who want to know Him and fear Him.
2. Trust the Lord and wait upon Him.
3. Be a good testimony to all who are around us.
Let us pray and ask the Lord to help us be the best testimony we can be and to let our lights shine for Him even in the darkest of places.
