God is our refuge – our shelter, our hope, our place of trust. Psalm 57:1 reads, “Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.”
God is our strength – our power, security, boldness. God promises, “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31) With God holding us up, we can keep going and we will not faint.
God is our help in time of trouble. Isaiah 41:10 describes this help, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” God is with us; He is our God; He will strengthen us; He will help us; He will hold us up with the right hand of His righteousness. He is very close to us in trouble.
